For example, plenty of companies claim to use ‘green’ paint because the paint they use does not emit the “new paint smell”. However, some companies simply replace the smelly VOC’s with odor masking agents such as formaldehyde, ammonia, acetone, or exempt solvents, which can be just as damaging.

We use Mythic Paint because it matches the quality look of other premium paints but it does not include any VOCs or carcinogens.  This makes your home environment healthier and provides the environment protection as well.  Best of all, the cost to you is about the same.

Conventional Methods:

Traditional home paints contain chemicals (volatile organic compounds – VOCs) that are toxic to your health and the health of our environment.

• VOCs used in traditional paint have been found to create air pollution – outdoors and within your own home. The air of a house painted internally with traditional paint is consistently five times more polluted than the air outside.  These chemicals compromise indoor air quality with VOC levels rising 1,000 times after a fresh coat is applied.
• According to the American Lung Association, VOCs can be very damaging to the body - lung problems, irritation of the eyes and/or skin, liver and/or kidney damage, headaches and nausea.
• Some buildings emit VOCs (off-gassing) such as formaldehyde, trichloroethylene, benzene, and toluene - known or suspected carcinogens.   Off-gassing can occur for up to 6 years.
• Everyone exposed to this pollution can be affected, but those who are most at risk are pregnant women, small children, elderly people, pets, and those with already weakened immune systems or environmental allergies.

The Earth is also in danger due to off-gassing. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) notes that the VOCs in paint are the cause of 9% of the pollutants that create ground level Ozone.
